A man who visited Bird Paradise in Mandai got to see more than just creatures of the avian variety.

Stomper Durai said he saw rats "all over" the wildlife park on March 31. He shared videos showing the rodents, some of which were in the presence of birds.

The Stomper recounted: "There were at least 100 rats and everyone saw them. Some were even breeding in front of us.

"There are rat traps everywhere but they don't seem to work. The rats can be found throughout the park except in the traps.

"Is this Mandai's rat park?"

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Mandai Wildlife Group said: "Rodent management is a routine housekeeping regime in all zoological parks. Our parks are no different. Animal feed in our free-ranging exhibits and aviaries are food sources.

"Bird Paradise is undergoing a cycle of rodent management. We continue to work with pest control companies to deploy non-traditional and less invasive measures of rodent control, in consideration of the animals in our care."

These include deploying traps, over the use of poisonous substances, the spokesperson added.
