A YouTrip user is hoping that his experience dealing with unauthorised card transactions will remind others the importance of checking their transaction history regularly.

On March 12, Stomper Don noticed multiple unauthorised transactions amounting to more than $100 on his YouTrip card, even though he always has his physical card with him.

Launched in 2018, YouTrip is a multi-currency travel wallet and Mastercard.

“Once I noticed the transactions, I immediately locked my card through the YouTrip app,” said Don. He told Stomp that he also reported these transactions to YouTrip on the same day.

However, to Don’s surprise, he continued receiving notifications of the unauthorised charges the following day – even after he had locked his card.

According to screenshots seen by Stomp, Don was charged between $2.49 and $6.99 more than 10 times. The payments were made to Google Soccer Bounce and Google Slither Rush, which appear to be mobile football and puzzle games respectively.

The problem, said Don, was resolved within three working days.

“YouTrip advised me to report the transactions to Google, which I did,” he added.

The Stomper also praised YouTrip for looking into these fraudulent transactions promptly, and shared that he had received a full refund by March 17.

According to Don, the YouTrip team clarified that locking one’s card will only prevent new transactions from being made, and it was likely that the subsequent charges he received were already pending in-app.

When asked why he wanted to share his experience, Don said that he simply wants to remind everyone to “regularly check your transaction history and secure your cards”.

This is important, he said, as many people save their credit card information on their Internet browsers and devices.

According to YouTrip’s website, users are advised to report unrecognised transactions through the YouTrip app within 45 days of the transaction date.

Once users have disputed the transaction, YouTrip will immediately suspend the affected card and review the dispute. Users will be notified in-app and via email within three working days, and the company will issue a complimentary card replacement where applicable.
