A man was caught on CCTV allegedly stealing cash from Local Coffee People at CIMB Plaza on Feb 7.

Stomper Mark, the owner of the cafe located in the basement of the building, told Stomp that the incident happened on a Saturday when the central business district is generally quiet with few people around.

The outlet is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

He has since lodged a police report and submitted the relevant details to the authorities.

According to Mark, about $368 was taken from the cafe.

"This guy had the audacity to just walk into the shop and force open a cash register to steal the money inside," he said. "He seemed to be unaware of the cameras within the premises."

In CCTV footage shared with Stomp, a man is seen entering the shop at about 9.54am and crouching in front of the cash register.

He is then seen removing notes from the drawer while leaving the coins behind, before placing the wad of notes into a bag worn on the front of his body.

The man later returns with what appears to be a spoon and attempts to open cabinets at the same counter before leaving the shop at about 9.56am.

Mark said the shops on the basement level of CIMB Plaza do not have shutters and believes he may not be the only victim.

"I think people should just be more careful," he added.

In response to a Stomp query, the police confirmed that a report has been lodged and investigations are ongoing.
