Man bites into eggshell in curry puff: Old Chang Kee apologises and launches investigation
A man found an extra ingredient in his Curry'O curry puff.
Stomper Simon told Stomp that his colleague bought the curry puff from Old Chang Kee's City Square Mall outlet on Nov 11 at about 4pm.
"Initially, I thought it was plastic until I felt something hard and foreign that the curry puff usually shouldn't have," he said.
"It turned out to be a piece of eggshell, perhaps to help with calcium deficiency.
"It was nothing serious, I just got a shock because I eat their curry puffs quite regularly and this is the first time I have found something extra in it."
In response to a Stomp query, an Old Chang Kee spokesperson apologised for the customer's experience.
"As a company committed to the highest standards of food safety and quality, we take incidents like this very seriously," the spokesperson said.
"We have stringent processes in place, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and a Food Safety Management System (FSMS), to ensure that all our products meet strict safety and quality standards.
"Our goal has always been to provide our customers with fresh, safe, and high-quality food."
The spokesperson added that Old Chang Kee immediately initiated an internal review to investigate the situation and determine how this may have occurred: "We will carefully assess our manufacturing processes to prevent any similar incidents from happening in the future."
