A 27-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

The police said they were alerted to a case of housebreaking and theft at a residential unit along Jurong West Street 93 on May 31 at about 7.55am.

Cash amounting to $55, RM168 (S$51) and printed copies of $193 Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers were allegedly stolen.

Officers used police cameras and footage from CCTVs to establish the man's identity, and arrested him along Jurong East Street 32 within four hours of the report.

Cash and CDC vouchers were recovered from the suspect upon his arrest.

The man was charged on June 2 with the offence of housebreaking in order to commit theft. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to ten years and a fine.

The police advised all houseowners to adopt these crime prevention measures: Secure all doors and other openings with good-quality grilles and close-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables on your premises, and install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs to cover the access points into your premise and test them periodically.
