# Man, 61, apprehended under Mental Health Act after being rescued from waters near Sentosa

*A 61-year-old man who was rescued from the waters near Sentosa has been apprehended under Section 7 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008.*

A 61-year-old man was apprehended after being retrieved from the waters near Sentosa on Oct 18, according to the Singapore Police Force.

Stomper Darren was “sitting around” with his friend on the VivoCity rooftop when they noticed what looked like Police Coast Guard vessels in the waters below the bridge connecting the mall and Sentosa.

“We saw the police boat searching the area under the bridge with their spotlights,” said the Stomper.

“So we got curious about what was happening and went closer,” he added.

Darren and his friend noticed that a section of the walkway was cordoned off, with multiple agencies on site, including the police, Sentosa Rangers and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

The pair also observed two couples along the boardwalk being interviewed by the authorities.

“A Sentosa Ranger on-site confirmed that an incident had occurred, but declined to provide details,” added Darren.

He counted three SCDF vehicles and at least five police cars, with officers shining their torchlights under the bridge.

Operations were still underway when Darren and his friend left the scene at about 11.30pm.

## Man apprehended under Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act

In response to Stomp’s queries, the SCDF and police said they received a call for assistance along Harbourfront Walk at 9.30pm on Oct 18.

A 61-year-old man was subsequently retrieved from the waters and was conveyed conscious to Singapore General Hospital.

He was apprehended under Section 7 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008 said the police.
