A 39-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in two separate cases of housebreaking and theft in Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang.

In the first incident, on June 23 at about 2.40pm, the police were alerted to a break-in at a foodcourt at Choa Chu Kang Street 51, where cash amounting to $2,542 was allegedly stolen.

The police were alerted to the second case on July 17 at around 8am.

This time, a coffee shop along Gangsa Road was reportedly targeted, with $800 in cash stolen.

Officers from the Jurong Police Division identified the man and arrested him on July 22.

He will be charged in court on July 24 with the offence of housebreaking and theft. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years' jail and a fine.

The police advise members of the public and business owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks, even if stepping away for a short while;
  • Avoid keeping large sums of cash or valuables on the premises;
  • Install burglar alarms, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs to monitor access points, and ensure these systems are in good working order.
