Man, 24, arrested for splashing Yishun unit with red paint and leaving debtor's note
A 24-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases.
On May 18, the police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment along Yishun Avenue 6.
The main gate and door of a residential unit were splashed with red paint and a debtor's note was pasted on the wall.
Through further investigations, the identity of the suspect was established, and he was arrested within 12 hours of the report.
He is believed to be involved in at least eight other similar cases of loanshark harassment committed island-wide.
The man will be charged in court on May 19 for the offence of loanshark harassment.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.
The public can call the police at '999' if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
