Lorry checked at Tuas Checkpoint found with 2,200 vape products hidden in cabin and toolbox compartment
A Malaysian-registered lorry at Tuas Checkpoint was found with 2,200 e-vaporisers and related components on Aug 5.
Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers had directed the lorry for enhanced checks and discovered the vape products hidden in the cabin and toolbox compartment of the vehicle.
The case was referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation, said ICA in an Aug 8 social media post.
Under current laws, possessing, using or buying vapes carries a maximum fine of $2,000.
Anyone who distributes, imports or sells vapes and their components can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $10,000.
In a separate incident at Woodlands Checkpoint on Aug 2, ICA officers directed a Malaysian-registered motorcycle for enhanced checks and found one packet of suspected controlled drugs.Β
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) was alerted and conducted further checks, uncovering a total of four bundles in the rear box of the motorcycle.
A total of about 4,149g of cannabis and 10g of ketamine worth more than $100,000 were seized and a Malaysian motorcyclist, 36, was arrested.
Two days earlier, ICA officers directed a Malaysian-registered car for enhanced checks at Woodlands Checkpoint and found a black flask containing bundles of suspected controlled drugs.Β
CNB was alerted and conducted further checks, uncovering an additional bundle of controlled drugs hidden in the Malaysian driver's groin area.
A total of about 414g of Ice and 46g of Ecstasy tablets worth more than $52,000 were seized.
Cash amounting to $2,947.30, 74,920 baht, RM1,185.65, 100 rupiah and 10 Taiwan dollars were also seized.
Later that day, through follow-up investigations, CNB launched an operation in Bras Basah and arrested a 52-year-old Singaporean man for suspected drug offences.
Investigations for both cases are ongoing.
Those who import into or export from Singapore more than 250g of methamphetamine or more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.
