Fishing at Kallang Basin is reportedly a familiar sight -- despite it being prohibited in some parts

Stomper Lee shared with Stomp that he was having a jog around the area on the night of April 21 when he saw two groups of people casting fishing nets into the water.

"I know fishing is prohibited and there are fines in place, but there are always fishermen with their lines set up around the area," said the Stomper.

"But two groups I saw seem to be taking fishing to the next level, using nets which they cast into the river."

Lee shared photos of one man casting a net near a bridge and a video of some other men standing near the water's edge with their nets.

He also included a photo of a sign that clearly states: 'No fishing' and warns of a fine of up to $3,000.

"Regardless of the local regulations, I hope any fish caught aren't sold to local eateries and the fisherman use them for their own consumption," the Stomper added.

Fishing is permitted at selected reservoirs and waterways in Singapore. The public may also fish in the sea and at some waterfront parks.
