Monitor lizard found lying motionless in Nex carpark: Was it run over by a vehicle?
A monitor lizard was spotted lying motionless in the carpark at Nex mall at about 10.10pm on June 27.
Stomper CL shared a video of what appears to be a clouded monitor lizard in front of a yellow kerb. Its head can be seen twisted to its left while its tail is looped around in a circular shape.
"I don't know if it's dead or alive," said CL.
"The lot was empty when we approached, as it was past 10pm. It's likely that a car reversed over without noticing it.
"I tried calling the mall but no one was there on the service line as it was after office hours. Hopefully the security saw it and acted on it."
This is the second injured monitor lizard Stomp has reported in June.
In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Nex said: "Our team has conducted a thorough check of the carpark and surrounding areas, and we did not find any monitor lizard at the location.
"Additionally, there were no reports received by our staff or security personnel regarding such an incident.
"Nonetheless, we will continue to monitor the premises closely to ensure the safety and comfort of our shoppers."
National Parks Board advises that when you encounter a monitor lizard, do not be alarmed. They are shy animals and will not attack humans unless provoked or cornered. Do not touch, chase or corner them as they may attack in defence.
You are advised to leave them alone. It is fine to observe them from afar.
