A Hyundai Avante caught fire on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Aug 6.

Stomper Phantom shared a video of the burning car on the side of the road with a man standing some distance behind the vehicle.

"From afar, I could see black smoke in the air and traffic was very slow," recounted the Stomper.

"As I drove nearer, vehicles on the fourth lane slowed down and signalled to change to the third lane. By then, I could already see the car burning fiercely from the engine bay.

"It was really scary and I hope there were no injuries."

Another video of the incident was also posted online.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire along PIE towards Changi Airport after Sims Way exit at about 11:40am.

The fire, involving the engine compartment of a car, was extinguished using a water jet.

A day earlier, another car also caught fire at the junction of Dunearn Road and Adam Road at 11.20am, reported The Straits Times.

In both cases, there were no reported injuries and the causes of the fires are under investigation.
