Heard of the fake $50 scare in Hougang? Here's how to differentiate real and fake notes
Stompers Fiona, Emily and Kino have alerted Stomp to a photo showing two $50 notes with the exact same serial numbers.
The picture has been circulating online and raised alarm about counterfeit notes being used in Hougang.
Emily, who said she received an alert about the incident today (May 31), told Stomp:
"Many in the Hougang area received fake S$50 notes bearing same serial numbers. There are many cases today -- all with the same serial numbers."
A quick way to detect whether a note is real or fake is through touch and feel.
Simply run your fingers across the note, such as on the word 'Singapore'. You would be able to feel the 'raised' printing if the note is genuine.
