# ‘He was in the way’: Man appears to sleep like a baby on MRT floor despite empty seat nearby

Commuters often complain about not being able to find seats on the MRT, especially during peak hours.

However, one man appeared completely unbothered by the lack of seats, taking things to the next level by lying down on the floor instead.

Stomper Lorraine spotted the strange sight on an East-West Line train heading towards Pasir Ris at about 1.30pm on Oct 13.

A photo shared with Stomp shows a man in a green T-shirt, black sweatpants and white slippers lying on his side, with his head propped up by his right hand and his right elbow resting on the floor.

Eyes closed, he appeared to be resting against a black bag, which served as a cushion. He was also lying in front of the MRT doors, potentially obstructing other passengers.

Just behind him was a commuter sitting down, with an empty seat next to him. The commuter appeared too engrossed in his phone to even pay the man on the floor any attention.

Two other commuters were standing near him, though their expressions could not be seen.

Lorraine, who had boarded the train at City Hall and alighted at Kallang, said she did not see where the man boarded or alighted.

Asked what she thought about the man’s actions, the Stomper said: “Thought that the guy should not be lying on the floor as he was in the way of passengers.”

According to the Rapid Transit Systems Regulations, causing an obstruction on the MRT can result in a fine of up to $5,000.
