Making merry or trouble?

A group of men has been gathering at the void deck of Block 745 Yishun Street 72 and creating a disturbance for at least three months, said Stomper Meng.

He told Stomp: "They gather here daily to smoke, drink and litter the whole area. They even hoard tables and chairs by chaining them to pipes."

Meng shared photos showing multiple office chairs and litter scattered at the void deck. A stack of plastic chairs and a wooden table can also be seen.

The Stomper added: "I have sent feedback to the town council many times but nothing has changed."

In response to a Stomp query, Nee Soon Town Council said it is aware of the issue.

"We have been actively engaging a group that frequently gathers at the void deck, where activities such as smoking, drinking, and unauthorised furniture placement have been reported," a spokesperson shared.

"The town council uses a multi-pronged approach to address this issue. In addition to advisories, patrols, we are also directly engaging the group through the Residents' Network and Citizens on Patrol.

"However, this is not the most straightforward situation. The group is not willing to cooperate and has at times responded with resistance and aggression."

As such, the town council has engaged relevant authorities, including the police, to assess appropriate enforcement measures.

The spokesperson added: "In the meantime, we have stepped up cleaning efforts to maintain hygiene and safety in the area.

"We remain committed to ensuring that shared spaces like void decks remain safe and welcoming for all residents, and we thank the community for their continued support and feedback."
