# Foodpanda user shocked by insect in $35.40 Stuff’d order: ‘It looked toasted’

A Foodpanda user was horrified after finding an insect in her food from Stuff’d’s Hillion Mall outlet.

Stomper Sydney said she and her partner discovered a “large unknown bug” in one of their quesadillas on Sept 16.

“My partner had already eaten around half of the burrito when he unwrapped the rest of the aluminum foil to find the insect pressed against the uneaten section of the tortilla wrap,” she told Stomp on Oct 1.

“The bug was fully intact and appeared as though it had been cooked alongside the wrap, as it looked toasted, leaving us concerned for the overall hygiene of the stall.”

Sydney subsequently submitted a complaint to Foodpanda and was given a full refund of $35.40.

However, she remained concerned about hygiene, prompting her to report the matter to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and Stomp.

“We got refunded for all our items but it was still very concerning and disgusting to find (the insect),” she added.

## Stuff’d ‘regrets worry and inconvenience caused’

In response to a Stomp query, a Stuff’d spokesperson said on Oct 7 that the company takes the reported incident seriously and is conducting a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the feedback.

“The health, safety and well-being of our customers and staff are of the utmost importance to us, and we are concerned to learn of the customer’s experience.”

The spokesperson said Stuff’d maintains stringent hygiene and food safety practices across its outlets, which undergo thorough cleaning and sanitisation by professional cleaning teams after operating hours, “covering all areas of the premises, including less visible and harder-to-reach areas”.

Stuff’d also engages a licensed pest control provider to conduct regular monthly inspections at its branches.

“These inspections form part of our proactive pest management programme, allowing us to identify potential risks and implement the necessary preventive measures,” the spokesperson added.

“We understand the customer’s concerns regarding the reported insect and sincerely regret the worry and inconvenience this incident may have caused.”

Stuff’d will continue to review its practices and procedures to ensure that its hygiene, cleanliness and food safety standards are consistently maintained across all its outlets, said the spokesperson, who added: “We will provide you with a further update once we have completed our review.”

## No food safety lapses detected: SFA

SFA told Stomp on Oct 9 that it had inspected the food business and did not detect any food safety lapses.

“Nonetheless, the food operator was reminded to ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained, and their food handlers adhere to good food safety practices,” said SFA.

Food safety is a joint responsibility, reminded the agency.

SFA said that while it implements and enforces regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.

Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via its online feedback form.

SFA added that it takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.

As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained.
