A florist is calling for mutual kindness and respect after an upsetting encounter with a customer.
The incident took place in her Ang Mo Kio shop on July 26.
Stomper Concerned Worker said: "I usually let things go, but this is different.
"As a florist, I always do my best to assist every customer with kindness and professionalism.
"That morning, a walk-in customer approached me and began speaking in Mandarin. I politely informed her, I am sorry, I don't understand Chinese.
"To my surprise, she responded by humiliating me on the spot, questioning why I was there and saying I should have directed her to someone who could speak Mandarin.
"Despite me being calm and respectful, she continued to raise her voice and started speaking in English in a rude tone in front of my workmates.
"I am mentally upset after this incident."
The florist explained why she decided to highlight the incident on Stomp: "Initially, I thought of just ignoring it, but why should I stay silent in the face of bullying? Is this kind of behaviour acceptable?
"Singapore is a multilingual country and English is a common language spoken by the majority.
"Let's be kinder to one another. Respect goes a long way."
