A fire broke out in the kitchen of a fifth-storey flat at Block 197D Boon Lay Drive on July 24.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp it was alerted to the fire, which involved contents of the kitchen, at about 6.20pm.

SCDF extinguished the fire with a water jet and a hose reel.

"During the firefighting operation, a firefighter experienced fatigue and felt unwell," SCDF added.

"He was assessed by a paramedic and conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital for further checks. The firefighter has since been discharged and given three days of medical leave."

Stomper Man Dot shared videos showing smoke billowing from the unit and said the fire was put out by 6.45pm.

"The block was still cordoned off at 7.10pm," he added. "There were a lot of people, both adults and children, at the playground."

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was likely caused by unattended cooking.

SCDF reminded the public not to leave any cooking or heating activities unattended Any gas or electric supply should be switched off when not in use.
