A fire broke out in a centralised rubbish chute at Block 237 Compassvale Walk on July 13.

Stomper Hidayah alerted Stomp to the incident and shared clips taken at about 4.23pm.

She shared: "Not sure what happened but the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was seen forcing the shutter open. Couldn’t stay longer to get the full story because it was going to rain."

In video clips she shared, bystanders can be heard speculating about what might have caused the fire, with one suggesting that a battery may have "exploded" inside the chute.

The shutter for the centralised chute also appears to be completely bent out of shape in the footage.

In response to a Stomp query, the SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at 3.50pm.

"The fire was extinguished by activating the drencher system prior to SCDF's arrival," an SCDF spokesperson said.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
