A fire broke out at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) on Oct 28.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp it was alerted to the incident at 1 Bayfront Avenue at 3.40pm.

"The fire involved a plastic mat on the 55th floor of the premises and was extinguished by the premises' staff using a hose reel before SCDF's arrival," an SCDF spokesperson said.

There were no reported injuries and preliminary finding indicate that the fire likely originated from welding works conducted in the vicinity.

Stomper Elvin shared a video with Stomp of flames and plumes of black smoke coming from just under the SkyPark Observation Deck.

A Reddit user posted a video of smoke coming from the iconic building taken from their office window in Bugis at about 3.30pm.

"Seems like there was a fire on the far side of MBS, lots of dark smoke coming from just below the 'boat'," the user wrote.

In response to a Stomp query, an MBS spokesperson said: "We confirm a small fire broke out on Level 55 of Marina Bay Sands Hotel Tower 3 on Oct 28 at approximately 3.30pm.

"The fire was in a location not accessible by guests and was put out by a team member quickly before the arrival of the SCDF.

"Nobody was injured in the incident. We are working closely with the authorities to investigate this incident."
