A resident has been helping a family of doves after he found their nest on his balcony at D'Leedon condominium.

Stomper Mike shared photos he took on July 13 with Stomp. In one picture, a spotted dove can be seen sitting in a nest on top of a young hatchling. In another, the hatchling sits in the nest on its own.

He shared: "A dove made a nest on our balcony on the seventh floor. I managed to see a hatchling in the afternoon.

"I didn't see the dove making her nest, as they are stealth operators. One day it was empty, and the next day, I found the nest.

"There are two hatchlings -- you can see there are three eyes and heads."

Mike told Stomp that the nest was built about a week prior to taking the photos.

"I tied a small tray to one of the branches, and put sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds for the doves," Mike said.

"Initially, I took a small saucer for chili sauce from Hong Lim Food Centre when having lunch, but I realised it was too shallow.

"Then, I cut the bottom of a milk bottle and punched holes in the bottom so that rainwater would not stagnate there.

"I punched four holes at the top and tied steel wires so it could hang onto a branch. Then, I added sunflower and pumpkin seeds."

This is not the first time a bird has nested on Mike's balcony, with a sunbird laying eggs there in March 2021.

The eggs subsequently hatched and Mike helped to protect the nest. By the start of May, the hatchlings had grown old enough to fly away and live life on their own.
