You might have noticed how some people have a little hole about their ears -- but do you know what they actually are?

According to Asian Town, this is actually a rare birth defect known as 'preauricular sinus'.

It is a common congenital malformation characterised by a nodule, dent or dimple located anywhere adjacent to the external ear.

While this condition is usually only found on one ear, 50% of those affected have them on both sides.

Find out more about the rare birth defect in the gallery above.
