Elderly man with walking stick does pull-ups on train
An elderly man was caught on camera hanging from the overhead grab handles on a North-South Line MRT train.
Stomper Vivian, who shared a video of the incident, said the man was doing pull-ups while spinning around despite walking with a quad cane for assistance.
She said this happened between Dhoby Ghaut and Somerset MRT station on March 3 at around 11.11am.
The man had boarded the train at Dhoby Ghaut.
"There were seats available and some passengers offered their seats to him, but he did not sit down. Instead, he moved to the standing area," recounted Vivian.
"After the train started moving, he began hanging from the overhead handrails, doing pull-ups and spinning."
The Stomper said she recorded the video when the man did it a second time.
"He continued the act for several minutes, clearly drawing attention from other passengers. This was not just a brief moment, it appeared to be a deliberate performance," said Vivian.
"At first, some passengers appeared surprised or concerned. During the second time, several commuters chose to move away or avoid the area."
The Stomper called the man's actions "dangerous".
"The train could have braked suddenly at any time, causing him to fall and potentially injure himself or others nearby," she added.
"This kind of behaviour puts everyone at risk and should not be tolerated."
Vivian said she alighted at Somerset MRT station and did not report the incident to the station staff as she was rushing to work.
This is not the first time people have been caught on camera treating the train like a fitness corner.
In 2021, Stomp reported on another man doing pull-ups on the MRT. In 2025, a commuter was seen doing push-ups on the train without his shirt on.
"Public transport is not a place for such stunts," said Vivian.
