A 25-year-old female turtle from a wishing fountain was in danger of dying after swallowing 915 coins, but was successfully saved thanks to a group of Veterinarians from Chulalongkorn University.

The team, comprising of five doctors and staff spent nearly seven hours in the operating theatre, and removed more than 5kg of coins from the green sea turtle, 'Ormsin', reports Coconuts Bangkok.

'Ormsin', a Thai word which roughly translates to 'piggy bank' was in danger of dying in two months if the operation did not happen.

She was rescued last month from the makeshift wishing fountain, a now defunct turtle breeding pond in Chonburi, Thailand.

Apparently, people had been throwing coins into said pond while wishing to have a long life like a turtle.

Ormsin will be nursed at the Royal Thai Navy's Sea Turtle Conservation Center until she recovers fully, before releasing her into the sea.
