Drivers and students band together to clear fallen tree blocking road in Serangoon
Drivers and students banded together after a tree fell across a road in Serangoon on May 7.
Stomper Anonymous alerted Stomp to the incident, which he said happened outside Zhonghua Secondary School along Serangoon Avenue 3 at about 5.08pm.
“I saw it fall right in front of the school entrance,” said the Stomper, who was at a nearby bus stop.
“It was startling because the sound of it falling was super loud.”
When asked what caused the tree to fall, the Stomper said there “was no wind or storm” at the time.
Members of the public step in
Videos shared by the Stomper show members of the public, including drivers and students, trying to move the tree off the road.
“The drivers were determined to pass through,” he said.
In one of the clips, a car is seen attempting to make a U-turn to avoid the tree, temporarily blocking an oncoming bus in the process.
A man is later seen using a saw to cut the tree into smaller pieces.
“They were sawing the tree into smaller pieces because they could not lift it in one piece,” the Stomper said.
A post on LTA Traffic News X account at 5.26pm said Serangoon Avenue 3 was closed after Jalan Girang due to an obstacle.
