Driver stops car on expressway and gets out to confront another in road rage incident
Stopping on the carriageway of an expressway is an offence punishable by a fine of $150 and four demerit points.
A Toyota Wish driver was caught on camera stopping on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) and getting out of his car to confront another driver in a road rage incident.
A dash cam video of the incident, which took place on June 10 at 5.13pm, was posted online by SG Road Vigilante on June 23.
It all started with the cam car stopping in front of the Toyota, believed to be a private-hire vehicle, at a taxi stand in Gombak.
When the cam car started to leave, the Toyota drove in front of it and appeared to be trying to block its way.
After the cam car drove around the Toyota, the driver of the Toyota cut into the cam car's lane abruptly and gesticulated from his drawn down window.
Later, when the cam car got on the BKE towards the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), the Toyota came from behind and drove in front of the cam car, trying to the block the latter once more.
The cam car changed lane and the Toyota followed suit with the driver gesticulating through the window.
The cam car managed to overtake the Toyota, which eventually caught up just before they reached the PIE.
The Toyota stopped in front of the cam car on the rightmost lane, forcing the cam car to stop as well. The Toyota driver got out to scold the cam car driver and showed an obscene gesture.
Once again, the cam car drove around the Toyota as the video ends.
Netizens chided both drivers for endangering other road users.
One commenter addressed the cam car driver: "You went in front of him and blocked him at the taxi stand (for what)? In front has a lot of space, but then (you) want to position your car in a way that this Toyota Wish cannot move out. Maybe when he was about to move off, you came and blocked his way."
As for the Toyota driver, another netizen said: "Whatever the cam car did… I don't think it warrants such a reaction endangering so many motorists on the expressway. It's just irrational and foolish. By the way, I think he is old enough to think better than that."
