PHV driver exits car in middle of Rochor Road to scold cabby over high beam, police investigating
A private-hire vehicle (PHV) driver stopped in the middle of Rochor Road and got out of his car to scold a taxi driver with vulgarities.
Stomper W, who is the cabby, shared dashcam footage of the incident that took place on Feb 26 at 8.33pm.
He made a police report the next day.
In response to a Stomp query, the police confirmed a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
The Stomper said he had picked up three passengers from Gardens by the Bay and was driving them to Grand Hyatt Hotel at Scotts Road.
W first saw the PHV in the leftmost lane of Bayfront Avenue while the Stomper was in the lane next to the PHV.
After overtaking the PHV, the cabby attempted to cut in front of it. However, the PHV driver sounded his horn and sped ahead of W, thus preventing him from doing so.
He recounted: "Dangerous and reckless PHV driver did not want to give way and showed his middle finger when my taxi had already signalled to keep left way beforehand."
In response to the middle finger, the Stomper flashed his high beam at the PHV.
W overtook the PHV again, but after some time, the PHV eventually caught up with him at Rochor Road and stopped suddenly in front of his taxi, almost causing a collision.
"The PHV driver went into road rage," said the Stomper, who managed to stop in time behind the PHV.
"He stopped in the middle of the road, got out of his car, challenged and scolded me with vulgarities."
In the video, the PHV driver can be heard repeating several Hokkien expletives. W claimed the PHV driver spat on him as well.
"I couldn't get out of my taxi and confront him because I had three passengers with me," said the Stomper.
"I needed to protect and think of my passengers' well-being. The idiot's saliva got on me and my front seat passenger too. The passenger asked me to keep my cool and not get out to confront him. He was also holding my left arm."
W said the PHV driver quickly stormed off after he saw that one of the passengers in the back seat was taking a video with her phone.
In the Stomper's video, the PHV driver can be seen returning to his silver Honda and driving off.
"He has shamed all Singapore drivers in front of tourists," lamented the Stomper. "Please help find justice for us poor taxi drivers."
