Singapore Customs has warned of a scam involving a document requesting payment purportedly from the agency's director-general.

In a Facebook post on May 17, Singapore Customs said it was alerted to the impersonation scam where someone was contacted via a WhatsApp message

In March, Singapore Customs similarly warned about e-mails circulating purportedly from Mr Tan.

The agency advises taking the following precautions should you receive suspicious text messages, especially from people you do not know:

  • Ignore the text message and do not follow the instructions if you are unable to verify that the sender is indeed a Singapore Customs official.
  • Do not open any file attachment as the content may be malicious.
  • Do not provide your name, NRIC number, passport details, contact details, bank account or credit card details, or other personal details to the sender.
