The members of public who put out a fire at Block 842E Tampines Street 82 on the night of July 28 are to be commended, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp.

Stomper HZ shared a video of several men rushing to pull a hosereel from a nearby multi-storey carpark to fight the fire.

"In a heart-warming display of bravery and quick thinking, a group of passers-by came to the rescue when a fire broke out," recounted the Stomper.

"Some used a fire extinguisher to contain the flames while these men assisted in putting out the fire by using the fire hose. The quick thinking to break out the fire hose prevented further damage.

"The man from level three was also quick to render help from his flat."

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted at about 7:55pm to the fire, which involved a bin on the ground floor.

"Members of the public extinguished the fire using a hosereel," said SCDF.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

SCDF added that it will be reaching out to the members of public who had rendered assistance to commend them for their public spiritedness.

The Stomper said: "Thanks to the swift actions of these heroes, a potentially catastrophic situation was averted.

"Indeed, heroes can be found in extraordinary places."
