Defective train that overshot platforms causes delays on North-South Line
A defective train that ran past platforms at Bishan and Ang Mo Kio stations led to delays on the North-South Line during the morning rush hour.
A Stomp journalist who was affected by the disruption, first boarded the train at Woodlands MRT station at 8.15am. Announcements in the train initially informed commuters to expect 10 minutes additional travelling time from Yishun to Bishan MRT stations.
"The train kept stopping between Ang Mo Kio to Bishan. It took 15 minutes just to travel between those two stations," said the Stomp journalist.
"Commuters were visibly frustrated as the train kept stopping."
Stomper Kannan who was also affected, told Stomp, "No photos but stupid train fault at Bishan again on a Monday morning."
In a report by The Straits Times, IT engineer Lek Chu Liang, 30, said that he was at Ang Mo Kio station at about 7.50am, when a southbound train pulled up and overshot the station.
The train had to reverse before it opened its doors for commuters to board.
This was delay was later revised to five minutes between Yio Chu Kang and Newton stations in an announcement on the train.
A check on SMRT's social media pages show that there is no official announcement about the disruption.
Normal train service has since resumed.
