Stomper Angel, who owns a small home-based cooking business, was prepping the ingredients for her customers' braised pork rice orders when she noticed an unusual black spot on one of her eggs.

She immediately knew something was wrong and started checking the other hard boiled eggs that she had prepared.

To her horror, she saw black spots on 15 eggs out of her batch of 30 cooked eggs.

Angel told Stomp that she had purchased the eggs from the Giant Hypermarket at Tampines on Nov 13 and cooked them on Nov 17.

"I was preparing the ingredients for the braised pork rice that my customers ordered and one of the main ingredients is the braised egg that goes well with the pork," Angel said.

"I started peeling the shells off my hard boiled eggs and noticed these strange black dots on them. I've never seen something like this before. There is no way I would serve this to my customers."

Angel added that she informed Giant about this via their Facebook page.

"I can't help but think what would happen if I didn't notice the black spots. Or, even worse, what if families with children and babies consume these eggs? This is very worrying," she said.

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesman for Dairy Farm Group, which Giant is under, said: "The health and safety of our customers are our top priority and we take such matters very seriously. We are aware of the customer feedback on the eggs and are currently conducting an internal investigation."

The spokesman added that they are also in touch with their egg supplier on this.

"We thank our customer for bringing this matter to our attention and have since been in touch to offer a full refund for the eggs," said the spokesman.

Stomp has contacted the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for more information.
