A couple were allegedly assaulted by four men at a coffee shop in Yishun on May 22 at about 10.15pm.

Stomper Freddy said the incident happened at a coffee shop at Block 293 Yishun Street 22.

"My girlfriend and I were beaten up by four men," he told Stomp.

"I don't know why they targeted us. My friends and I were just at our table, drinking happily. Maybe they were not happy, said that place is their place."

He alleged that when his girlfriend tried to call the police, one of the men threw her phone on the ground after she tried calling the police, damaging it.

"Four guys beat her, of course she defended herself and hit back," he said.

"Then she was arrested as well."

Freddy also shared photos and videos showing his injuries, as well as footage of paramedics taking his girlfriend to the hospital.

In a police report seen by Stomp, Freddy's girlfriend recounted how one of the men, who is known to her, grabbed Freddy by the neck, pushed him to the floor and began beating him up.

She said three other men, whom she recognised as regulars at the coffee shop joined in the attack.

"I was trying to stop them when one of them said, 'You are girl also, I will beat you' in Mandarin and started hitting me too," she recounted.

"They only stopped when someone shouted at them and all four ran away."

She added that she was arrested and brought to Woodlands Regional Lock-up, then sought treatment at Yishun Polyclinic.

She was later referred to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital's emergency department, where she was diagnosed with 'left sensorineural hearing loss' due to her head injury.

The woman said she lodged the report on June 4 for insurance purposes.

In response to a Stomp query, the police said they received a call for assistance at Block 293
Yishun Street 22 on May 22 at 10.40pm.

"A 46-year-old man was conveyed conscious to the hospital," a police spokesperson said.

"A 42-year-old woman was arrested for affray."

Police investigations are ongoing.
