A Reddit post of what appears to be a visually-handicapped man wearing a Nazi jacket with a swastika armband has got netizens talking.

"Is this allowed?" asked a Redditor, referring to the Nazi elements of the man's outfit, which includes a beret, bermudas and what looks like a pair of Crocs.

The still image, taken on an MRT station platform and originally posted on Instagram by sgfollowsall.backup, also shows him carrying a white cane used by the visually impaired.

"If this appears in Europe. He should have gone to Mandai immediately. Nothing to do, just want attention and start provocation," said a commenter on Instagram.

"Either the picture is a massive fake or the man wasn't paying attention to German history. Very embarrassing," said another.

Some wondered if he was really blind, or if he would be at fault if he was indeed visually impaired.

"LMAO... blind dude wearing Nazi gear…who's at fault here? Him for knowingly put on Nazi gear or the person who picked his clothes?" commented a Redditor.

"Since there are different types of blindness, he may not be completely blind. So he might have made the choice knowingly, given that he's also wearing that hat," said another.

Others with a better grasp of history saw the funny side of things. "Someone call nein nein nein!" said one commenter, a pun on the German word for "no".

"His collar patch is pointing the wrong way and his shoulder straps are far too extravagant for his rank. But it goes well with the Crocs," said a Redditor.

"Later ISD ask him to eat Nazi lemak together," said another.

"Or maybe can go eat Nazi Göring," chimed in one commenter, alluding to the Nazi war criminal Hermann Göring.

"ISTG people be göbbel-ing these jokes up," said another, a reference to Adolf Hitler's propaganda minister Josef Göbbels.

While there are no specific laws banning the wearing of Nazi symbols in Singapore, Section 298A of the Penal Code states that it is an offence to promote enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race, and to commit acts that cause disharmony whether by words, signs or visible representations.

Offenders could be jailed up to three years, fined or both.
