Chinese national charged after allegedly hitting boy's head with bottle at Arab Street and knife found in his bag
A Chinese national, 26, was charged on June 21 after he allegedly hit a boy's head with a bottle and a knife was found in his bag.
Stomper Randy alerted Stomp to the video of the June 20 incident posted online by Sgfollowsall.
According to the post, the witness who shared the video said the man had "randomly smacked" the boy's head with a wine bottle outside the % Arabica outlet at Arab Street at 1.30pm.
"Dad tried to beat him but kept falling, probably in shock. So I separated them while trying to figure out what to do and calling the cops," recounted the witness.
The boy and his parents were tourists from Indonesia.
The witness said: "While waiting for the cops, the China dude was laughing to himself and then suddenly trying to pull the knife out."
The video shows somone snatching a bag from the Chinese national and a knife was found in it.
The witness added that the boy's head was swollen and he vomitted when taken into the % Arabica outlet.
The Chinese national, whose name is Xu Chaoyu, was charged with possessing a 32cm kitchen knife on June 20 at 1.27pm and a 30cm chopper on June 21 at 1.33am, both at the same Arab Street address as the % Arabica outlet.
He was also charged for remaining unlawfully in Singapore for 49 days after the expiry of his social visit pass, which permitted him to stay only till May 2.
Xu has been remanded and his case will be heard again on July 4.
