A fan caught fire at Tekka Centre on Friday morning (Sept 9).

Stomper Jay shared photos and a video of the incident that occurred at around 8am.

He recounted: "A fan at the fish porridge stall (一家潮州鱼粥, 鱼汤) suddenly caught fire.

"Luckily, there was another hawker selling sandwiches who had a fire extinguisher and came to help within minutes. Police happened to be there too.

"No one was injured but the fish porridge stall was very messy."

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire at 665 Buffalo Road at around 8.15am.

The fire, which involved a fan in a unit on the first floor, was put out by members of the public using a dry powder extinguisher prior to SCDF's arrival.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Jay's video shows a man stepping up onto an elevated height to put out the fire.

Cheers and applause from onlookers can be heard after he successfully extinguishes the fire.
