Chanel fashion show at Raffles Hotel an 'inconvenience to public, made us jaywalk': Stomper

People were "forced to jaywalk" to get around a security barricade on a public walkway outside Raffles Hotel Singapore, claimed a pedestrian.

A Stomper alleged that enforcement officers and a private security firm blocked the pavement along Beach Road for a private event on Nov 4.

"No one could walk along the pathway unless they were involved in the event," the Stomper said.

"I've seen the personnel stop cyclists and other pedestrians. Since the traffic light was far away, I've seen people forced to jaywalk just to get around their barricade."

"I was asked to cross the road and walk over from the other side to get to the bus stop."

All in the name of fashion

The cause of the disruption? The Chanel Cruise 2025/2026 Fashion Show.

According to The Straits Times, international stars like Tilda Swinton, Liu Wen and Rebecca Armstrong were in attendance, alongside local celebrities.

"I don't think private firms should be allowed to inconvenience the public for celebrities who are not even politicians," said the Stomper.

"It wasn't the inconvenience that upset me," the Stomper clarified.

"It was the principle - no private security should have this much power to compel the public to comply."

According to the Active Mobility Act of 2017, members of the public have the right to access public paths.

Public paths cannot be obstructed without relevant permits and authorisation.

Stomp has reached out to the security firm for comment.
