Cars forced to stop as drunk man lies down in middle of Serangoon Road at 2.25am

A 44-year-old man was arrested on Oct 4 for public drunkenness after he was seen lying flat in the middle of Serangoon Road in the wee hours and obstructing traffic.

In response to queries, the police said they received a call for help involving the incident at 900 Serangoon Road at about 2.25am.

No injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing.

In video footage put up on Facebook page Beh Chia Lor - Singapore Road on Oct 5, a car can be seen coming to a sudden halt even though the traffic light was green because the man was lying flat across one of the road's four lanes.

If found guilty, the man can be jailed for up to a month, fined up to $1,000, or both. According to the law, drunkenness is a state of being drunk and incapable of taking care of oneself.

Repeat offenders can be jailed for up to three months, fined up to $2,000, or both.
