In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted at about 9pm to the fire along KPE towards Tampines Expressway after Bartley Road East exit.

The fire, involving the engine compartment of the car, was extinguished prior to SCDF's arrival.

There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to the Land Transport Authority's OneMotoring website, the 9km-long KPE tunnel is equipped with overhead water sprinklers and a tunnel ventilation system that can fight fires and remove smoke.

Fire service cabinets can be found every 50m within the tunnel, next to its left-most lane. Emergency phones can also be found every 100m in alternate fire service cabinets.
