Cabby, PHV driver yell vulgarities at each other in MBS driveway: 'I'm not to be bullied, so I gave chase'
A taxi driver and a private-hire vehicle (PHV) driver got into an argument outside Marina Bay Sands in the early hours of July 19.
Stomper Wong, who was the PHV driver, shared a dashcam video of the "thuggish" behaviour of the cabby in the MBS driveway at 3am.
The Stomper was queuing to pick-up passengers when the cabby honked at him.
"This crazy gangster taxi driver from Transcab, who was stationary in the left innermost lane, without any signal to exit, accused me of blocking him," recounted Wong.
"When he drove past my right side, he pointed his middle finger and showed me his fist as though to signal he wanted to punch me.
"But not today. I am not to be bullied. So I gave chase and high-beamed him. I wanted to see what he can do."
The red taxi stopped in front of the Stomper in the driveway and the cabby, clad in a black tank top and blue pants, alighted and pointed at the PHV driver.
"Indeed, he came out of his taxi like a mad dog with rabies, shouting. Like the saying, empty vessels make the most noise," said Wong.
Both drivers can be heard yelling Hokkien vulgarities at each other before returning to their vehicles.
The Stomper said: "In the end, he didn't dare to do anything to me. Look at his attire. Was that even allowed for a taxi driver, a public service provider?"
He added he had made a report to Transcab, the Land Transport Authority and police.
In response to a Stomp query, a Transcab spokesperson said: "We are deeply sorry about this unpleasant incident that you have had experienced with the driver of SHD5184D
"In this case, the driver has been issued a warning and given counselling for him to be more mindful of his service conduct.
"We have filed this case in his service record and we will continue to monitor the service render by the driver. We will take further action should there be any similar incident happen again.
"Once again, we extend our apologies on behalf of the driver and we will continue to educate our drivers on the importance of service quality. We assure you that we have taken the necessary steps to remedy the situation."
