A BYD driver was issued a warning notice after parking in an electric vehicle (EV) charging lot at Gardens by the Bay without actually charging his car.

Stomper Jillianne told Stomp that the car was occupying the EV charging lot as early as 3.45pm on June 22, when a warning letter was issued by the management.

The vehicle remained in the spot at 6pm when the Stomper took photos of it.

"This irresponsible driver occupied a lot when not charging and deprived others of charging their EVs," Jillianne said.

"He obviously tried to game the system by unplugging the charger so he would not be charged idling fees."

She added: "A warning letter for such a driver is not enough of a deterrent."

The notice, placed on the car's windscreen, stated: "This lot is reserved for authorised use only."

It also warned: "Continued failure to adhere to parking rules of Gardens by the Bay will result in your car being wheel clamped. An administrative charge of $150 will be imposed for release of wheel clamp."
