BMW runs red light and almost hits pedestrian crossing road in Yishun, 60-year-old driver charged
If the pedestrian had not stopped in time, the BMW sports utility vehicle would have hit him.
The 60-year-old male driver was on Sept 18 charged with dangerous driving.
He was driving along Yishun Avenue 1 towards Yishun Avenue 8 on July 26 at about 7.17pm when he allegedly failed to conform to the red light signal at a pedestrian crossing and almost hit the luggage-lugging pedestrian.
Fortunately, the pedestrian noticed the car and managed to stop in time. There were also other pedestrians crossing the road behind him.
Dash cam video of the incident was posted online by SG Road Vigilante.
After the BMW went past him and stopped at a junction ahead, the pedestrian can be seen going closer to the car to take a photo before continuing on his way.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, Traffic Police established the identity of the driver.
The offence of dangerous driving carries a fine up to $5,000, jail term up to 12 months, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, the offence carries a fine up to $10,000, a jail term up to two years, or both.
Offenders may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
