Bishan man feeding birds from kitchen window since 2020 even after NParks advised him not to -- twice
It has been going on for close to four years.
A Bishan resident has complained about her neighbour feeding birds from his kitchen window since 2020, but it is still happening.
Stomper Shannon shared a video of birds flying outside the 14th-storey window at Block 270 Bishan Street 24.
"I am unfortunate to live next to a neighbour who feeds wild mynahs from his kitchen daily," said the Stomper.
"The feeding usually takes place in the morning from 7am to 9am. The mynahs will make a lot of noise when they come to eat the food. My neighbour will place food along the kitchen window for them.
"This has led to an increasing population of these pests, resulting in droppings on windows and clothes, and even incidents of them entering homes to steal food."
Under the Wildlife Act, feeding any wildlife is an offence punishable by a fine up to $5,000 for the first offence and up to $10,000 for the second offence.
The Stomper first reported the issue to National Parks Board (NParks) in December 2020.
In January 2021, she received an e-mail from NParks that it has advised the neighbour against bird-feeding and added: "We have arranged for surveillance to monitor for bird feeding activities from this unit."
As the problem persisted, the Stomper wrote to NParks again in January 2022.
In March 2022, NParks replied: "We have advised your neighbour against feeding again recently. We will install a CCTV to monitor their feeding and take enforcement action where necessary."
The Stomper said: "Despite reporting this issue to NParks since 2020, the problem remains unresolved, and I feel powerless to do anything about it."
She also used the OneService app to report the problem to the Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council in May and June 2024.
In May, the reply was: "Bird culling this week was conducted by pest control contractor."
In July, the town council replied: "There are few pigeon activities when I conducted a visit on site."
Stomp has contacted NParks and Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council for more info.
