The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) adjusted the food hygiene grade of Minum Kopi Café & Bakery from B to C with effect from June 7.

The bakery's premises at Block 213 Bedok North Street 1 will also be kept under surveillance, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) and SFA in a statement.

This is due to a food poisoning incident where 19 people were reported to have developed gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food prepared by Minum Kopi Café & Bakery on Oct 15, 2023.

Four were hospitalised and have since been discharged.

A joint investigation by MOH and SFA was conducted following the incident.

Several hygiene lapses were identified during the inspection of Minum Kopi Café & Bakery on Oct 19, 2023, which led to SFA taking enforcement action.

The food hygiene grade will be reviewed in 12 months.

"Food operators are reminded to adhere to good food hygiene and safety processes," said the statement.

"Good hygiene practices such as the washing of hands before handling food can greatly reduce the incidence of gastroenteritis when adopted by all key stakeholders, including the industry and public."
