A 35-year-old Australian woman was arrested two years after allegedly stealing from a shop in Changi Airport.

The police said they were alerted on March 23, 2023, to a suspected case of shop theft after a bottle of perfume valued at $248 was discovered missing from The Shilla Duty Free Perfume and Cosmetics Shop at the transit area of Terminal 1's departure hall.

Officers from the Airport Police Division identified the woman through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTVs.

However, the woman had left Singapore on a flight after she purportedly committed the crime.

She was arrested by the police upon her return on March 31 this year.

The woman will be charged on April 4 with theft in dwelling, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

The police said they take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.

They added: "Offenders will be held accountable, even if they manage to evade immediate detection. The police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter shop theft cases."
