Auntie allegedly steals 'high-value' vegetable from Marine Terrace Market, police investigating
A woman was caught on camera allegedly stealing vegetables from a stall at Marine Terrace Market & Food Centre.
Stomper Spencer said the incident occurred at his 50A Marine Terrace Market stall on June 1, at around 7am.
He recounted: "A female customer came over to my stall and picked up a high-value item. She enquired about the price and placed the item back after we informed her of the price.
"When she saw that the stall was busy, she looked around to ensure that no one was looking, picked up the item and left without paying."
Spencer, who shared CCTV footage of the incident, said the woman took a packet of Japanese burdock worth about $8 to $10.
Burdock root is a vegetable that can be used as both food and medicine. It is known for its health benefits and medicinal properties.
Spencer, who has made a police report, told Stomp: "The woman is a regular in the market but not at my stall. What an ugly act."
In response to a Stomp query, the police confirm that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
