A fire broke out in a flat at Block 532 Jelapang Road in Bukit Panjang on Tuesday afternoon (June 23).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire involving the contents of a bedroom in a sixth-floor unit at around 2.10pm.

Stomper Jolin shared a video of the blaze and thick black smoke billowing from the flat, while another video that Stomper Anon submitted shows SCDF vehicles at the scene.

The fire was extinguished by the SCDF using a water jet.

About 80 people were evacuated from the affected block by the authorities.

One person was assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation, but subsequently refused conveyance to the hospital.

The cause of fire is under investigation, an SCDF spokesman told Stomp.
