A father managed to save his nine-year-old daughter in the nick of time when her sandal got stuck in the escalator at Thomson Plaza.
Mr Huang, 41, told Shin Min Daily News that he and his daughter had just finished dinner and they got on the escalator at about 7pm on Feb 15.
"At the time, my daughter was standing a couple of steps in front of me," he said.
"Just when we were about to reach the second storey, she suddenly shouted."
Mr Huang saw the front of his daughter's sandal pinned in the gap of the escalator.
He rushed forward to press the emergency stop button but could not locate it as he panicked.
Mr Huang quickly undid the straps of his daughter's sandal and picked her up.
He later found and pressed the emergency stop button before notifying the concierge about the incident.
Mr Huang's daughter was rather shaken but unharmed.
"Children are generally more active, so parents must be extra careful and teach them to pay attention to safety," he said, adding that he shared his experience online in hopes of raising awareness among parents.
In July 2024, a boy's foot was stuck in an escalator at Jurong Point.
The year before, another boy had his toe caught in an escalator at Botanic Gardens MRT station in July.
