5 drivers of heavy vehicles, including cement mixers, to be charged in court with speeding
Five drivers of heavy vehicles will be charged in court on Oct 28 for speeding.
Two of them commited the offence while driving a cement mixer along Sheares Avenue towards Central Boulevard.
One man, 34, drove at 61kmh on June 8 and the other, 37, at 54kmh on June 23. The imposed speed limit for a cement mixer is 40kmh.
The three others expected to be charged are bus drivers.
One 33-year-old man drove along Sheares Avenue towards Central Boulevard at a speed of 76kmh on May 31. That exceeded the imposed speed limit of 60kmh of the bus.
Another man, 42, drove along Pan-Island Expressway towards Tuas at a speed of 73kmh on July 11.
Lastly, a 40-year-old man drove a bus along Bukit Timah Expressway towards Woodlands at a speed of 73kmh on Aug 1.
The offence of speeding carries a fine of up to $1,000, a jail term of up to three months or both.
In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a fine of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
The offenders may face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
