4 youths, aged between 18 and 27, arrested for loanshark harassment in Tampines
Two men and two women, aged between 18 and 27, were arrested for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment in Tampines.
The police were alerted on Jan 3 at about 5.50am after the gate of a Tampines Street 33 flat was secured with a bicycle lock and a debtor's note was left behind.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the four suspects and arrested them within the same day.
Four mobile phones were seized as case exhibits.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they were involved in another case of loanshark harassment.
A 29-year-old man was also arrested for suspected loanshark harassment in the new year.
The police were alerted to black paint splashed on the main door, gate and steps of a Joo Chiat Road flat on Jan 2.

A debtor's note was also found.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within two hours of the report.
A mobile phone, a debtor's note and a can of paint were seized as case exhibits.
All five were charged in court on Jan 4 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loan shark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.
