4 coffee shops in Tampines, Yishun, Jurong East and Bukit Batok suspended 1 day for dirty toilets

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) suspended the licences of four coffee shops a day on March 28 for dirty toilets.

Two of them are:

  • Eng Huat Lee coffee shop at Block 138 Tampines Street 11
  • YS846 Eating House at Block 846 Yishun Ring Road

They accumulated 12 demerit points within a 12-month period and were fined $1,300 each for failing to keep their toilets clean and in good repair.

The other two were fined $1,100 each for failing to maintain its sanitary fittings in good working condition and repair as well as failing to keep its toilet clean and in good repair.

They are:

  • Kai Xiang Food Centre at Block 349 Jurong East Avenue 1
  • Coffee & Tea, a coffee shop at Block 323 Bukit Batok Street 33

On March 4, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment announced that under a new $5 million Coffee Shop Toilet Renovation Grant, coffee shop operators can apply to the National Environment Agency (NEA) for up to 95 per cent funding for costs, capped at $50,000 per coffee shop.

Operators will also be able to tap NEA's $5 million Coffee Shop Toilet Deep Cleaning Grant, for funding of up to 95 per cent of the cost of a two-year deep cleaning contract, capped at $25,000 per coffee shop, reported The Straits Times.

"Successful grant applicants will also receive complimentary on-site toilet cleaning training at their coffee shops for in-house cleaners," said the ministry.
